Joel Embiid mocked Pat Riley’s excuse for Hassan Whiteside’s poor playoff performance

Heat big man Hassan Whiteside battled injuries throughout the season and made little impact during Miami’s first-round series loss to the Sixers.

Whiteside averaged just 5.2 points in 15 minutes a game during the series. In his exit press conference, Pat Riley voiced his concern about Whiteside’s performance. He said that the center wasn’t conditioned for a playoff matchup with Joel Embiid.

Well, Embiid wasn’t buying that excuse.

Embiid commented on an Instagram post that pulled Riley’s quote and brought up his own injury.

He wrote, “I’ll let you finish but I missed a month so no excuses just Trust It.”

Embiid, of course, missed the final month of the season after suffering an orbital fracture in a freak collision with Markelle Fultz. He returned for Game 3 and averaged 18.7 points in the series while still playing his usual 30.3 minutes a game.

Conditioning wasn’t an issue for him.
