The United States orders Russia to stop the consulate
The US government has ordered the withdrawal of Russian Consulate in San Francisco.
Along with this, the US Department of State has instructed to dismantle two Annex buildings in Washington DC and New York’s Russian chancellery, according to BCC and Reuters.
The US State Department’s statement said that the work should be completed by September 2.
It is seen as a countermeasure of Vladimir Putin’s government’s move to reduce the number of workers in the US Embassy in Moscow by more than half.
After the ratification of a new sanctions on Russia in the United States last month, Russia responded by saying that the number of workers in the US Embassy in Moscow was reduced to 455 people.
After Barack Obama’s reaction to Russia’s intervention in last year’s presidential election, after the Moscow-Washington reversal of Crimea, the two diplomatic countries are struggling with diplomatic tensions.
At the same time, Moscow’s directive to reduce the number of diplomats was greatly annoyed by Washington’s footsteps.
“We believe that (Moscow) this move is unexpected and harmful for the overall relations between the two countries,” State Department spokeswoman Heather Neuert said in a statement.
“Because of Moscow, we are telling the Russian government to take back an Annex consortium of San Francisco and an Annex of Washington DC Chancellor and an Annex in New York Chancery. It will be done by September 2. ”
There are five missions in the United States of Russia.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov condemned Washington’s move on three of them, BBC reported.
He said that this will increase the tension between the two parties.
